Welcome Guest Blogger Lisa Dale!

Wedding Bells Are Ringing

Thanks to all for having me back here! I had a great time last time I stopped by and I’m glad to be visiting again.

The last time I was here I blogged about my first women’s fiction/romance release, Simple Wishes, which came out in January. But today I figured it might be fun to talk about something close to my heart these days: my fiancĂ©.

My boyfriend and I got engaged a few weeks ago and I still feel as though I’m walking on air. He whisked me away on a much needed vacation to Florida, and on a beach called Pass-a-Grille , he got down on one knee right in the water and held out the ring. The whole moment was surreal. And beautiful.

When I began telling people what happened, some said “so are we going to read that in your next novel?” It surprised me how many people—half-jokingly—figured that I would fictionalize the moment. And while I don’t think that exact scene will make an appearance in a romance novel, I did write about it on my blog. As nonfiction.

Even though my moment with Matt probably won’t be in a book, I can’t help but think how important those kinds of moments are for us writers—those moments that feel lifted up beyond the realm of the ordinary. Those instances feel like gifts—to real life but also to the muses as well. You may not read the specifics of my own personal love story in my fiction, but the heart of it is there.

I’d love to hear your engagement story—or a friend’s—if you’re up for sharing. One commenter will win a copy of my first book Simple Wishes, about a young woman who returns to her mother’s cottage in the mountains—seeking isolation but finding so much more. There’s more information at www.LisaDaleBooks.com .

Best,

Lisa Dale

Hello Lisa,

My engagement was coming to meet my husbands parents for the first time. We arrived very early and decided to take off into the mountains on his uncle's 4 wheeler. I'd never been so this was a first. The stars were out and Jr stopped in a spot where we could see the moon. He asked me then to marry him. Of course, I said yes. This was almost 7 years ago and I wouldn't change a thing. Have a great day.

Welcome to the Pens, Lisa! Love your engagment story (and yours, Huosemouse) and I agree about us needing those special moments in our lives. Like you said, we all need to feel like our lives aren't just a series of monotonous daily routines. We need those special moments to raise us up and let us know we matter. Adding your latest release to my "must buy" list.
Have a great release week!

Welcome, Lisa. Great to have you here. Fabulous story. the first time my husband asked me to marry him (on our second date) I laughed at him. When he asked a second time, two weeks later, I said yes.

Welcome to the Pens, Lisa! My engagement story...my hubby asked me to move in with him, and after wasting 5 years in 3 live-in relationships that went nowhere, I told him I wasn't moving in with another man unless I was engaged. He said, "Okay, then I'll marry you."

It wasn't until about 6 mos after I moved in and our wedding was scheduled that I told him he never officially proposed. I was only teasing, but just like that, he dropped down on one knee and gave me the most beautiful impromtu proposal. To bad I don't remember any of it. LOL! Just that it was really sweet and wonderful.

Hi, Lisa! What a fabulous engagement! My now husband proposed during an indoor picnic :) He picked me up from the airport bearing a bouquet of red roses as I got back from a conference, and he tucked the ring into a container disguised as dessert. (I'd never miss it then ;)) The part I treasure most though is that he gave me a journal he'd kept of our relationship until that point--it moved me to tears.

Congratulations! My hubby & I met over the phone working for the same company but in different cities. His voice gave me tingles up my spine.(Yes I tell people we met on a 1-800 line not a 1-900 line) In the meantime my family was bugging me to get married but I hadn't met Mr. Right For Me. I wanted the Kleenex man -strong but gentle.5 months after I started working with him he asked me out. We met Jan 7 - he proposed Jan 30 (the same weekend he met my huge Italian family)to get married 6 months later which is my birthday on July 30.When I told my family no one was surprised. My mom said he was the just like the guy I had been describimg all these years. The only thing that did not work out: I quote "Oh honey we'll get married on your birthday & you'll still get 2 cards & 2 presents" - yeah whatever. After 25 years he's still a good guy who makes me laugh
and puts up with my piles of books.
Best wishes to you Lisa.
