Early Morning at the Movies

Sorry for the late blog, everyone. I was planning on posting last night, then fell asleep. And this morning I had to wake up early to go to...the movies. Yep, the movies. Now seriously, who goes to see a movie at 10 o'clock in the morning? Not me, definitely. But one of my jobs is checking movie trailers, to make sure theaters are playing the right ones, and today I had to check Transformers 2.

Now, I'm expecting to drag myself out of bed, get to the 10 o'clock show and find the theater empty. Did that happen? Nope, it was PACKED. I like Transformers, but come on, am I so desperate to see it that I'd go that early? No way. But yeah apparently some people are that desperate.

Any-hoo, my morning at the movies made me think about movies that are coming out that I really want to see. Funny enough, they're all based on books!

1) The Time Traveler's Wife--finally saw the first trailer for it, and I've gotta say, it looks pretty good. I loved the book, so hopefully the movie lives up to it.

2) My Sister's Keeper--again, loved the book, wanna see the movie.

3) The Lovely Bones--this one doesn't even have a trailer yet, but I bet it'll be good. Not to sound like a broken record, but...I loved the book LOL!!
4) Shutter Island--same author as Mystic River, a really awesome book, Martin Scorcese directing and Leonardo Dicaprio is starring, so yeah, I'll be seeing it.

I really hope these films are as good as the written counterparts. Lately I've been finding myself very disappointed in movies based on books I like. I think the only book-movie I truly loved was The Notebook. And maybe A Time to Kill. And I guess Mystic River. Okay, there are a lot I really liked!
But sometimes the films completely demolish the books, changing so much, which I hate. What about you guys? Any movies you're dying to see? Any book-movies you loved or hated?

Hi, Elle! I have to say, I'm not much of a movie watcher--something about the whole experience feels almost too overwhelming--and with book-movies, I find myself frustrated sometimes when the casting or the visuals don't sync with what I'd envisioned. I remember watching some of those "classics"--The Great Gatsby, Jane Eyre... --in high school after we'd read the books, and although it was meant to be a treat, it didn't always feel that way! ;)

One book-movie I did really like was The Joy-Luck Club. It wasn't the same as the book, but I don't think it was a book that would have been easily adapted straight over. I thought both were really well done.

Oh, and OT, I enjoyed and commented on your post over at Blaze authors--hope your friendship will endure the Jerk.

Hi Elle
I can't wait to see Transformers 2.
I love special effects. We watched the DVD of the original about 5 times the week it came out. This time I want to see it on the big screen.I loved the movie In Her Shoes & watch it everytime its on but I've never read the book so I don't know if I'd be disappointed.I loved both the book & the movie To Kill a Mockingbird.

flchen, were you the one who posted the awesome link to the abuse article? Because I posted a huge thank-you but I just checked back now and saw my comment never went through. If it was you, that article was great. Scary how some of the signs at the end were totally like my friend's relationship....i'm seeing her this weekend, so we'll see what happens...

As for the classics, I'll admit, I don't usually like the movie versions. I didn't like Gatsby or Jane Eyre movies I saw. But I do like Jane Austen book-movies--they're always a little more interesting than the books LOL!

Hey Mary! I love to Kill a Mockingbird, book and movie. Oh, and I managed to catch the first half hour of Transformers this morning (in between trailer checks) and I loved it. I guess I'll have to go see it with my BF this weekend. Won't have to twist his arm, fortunately, like all the other movies I drag him to LOL!

Hi Elle,
Believe it or not, I had to pick my 15 y o son up at 3 AM Tues-er..Wed morning from seeing the 2 and a half hour long Transformers movie because he had to see the Midnight premier! Ack! (He so earned it with helping me out babysitting his younger sister)
When I got to the mall the traffic was like the crowds I normally see at the mall on Christmas eve! I couldn't believe that many people would stay up til 3 AM on a Tuesday! Talk about getting up early for a movie!
Anyway, my fave book to movie is the A&E version of PRIDE AND PREJUDICE, and the BBC version of JANE EYRE. Do those count since they weren't theater movies?
BTW, have I mentioned that your job sounds like my dream job? I'm a movieholic. Actually , that's my blog topic for my Blaze author blog this Saturday. Our minds must be on the same wave length. :)

Oh, I don't know how I'd forgotten the Jane Austen book-movies--now those are excellent! Thanks! ;)
