5 QUESTIONS FOR...TAWNY WEBER

Welcome to our continuing feature here at Sizzling Pens,
"5 Questions For..." It's a mini-interview with some of your favorite authors, and today, we're thrilled to bring you Blaze author, Tawny Weber!

Tawny Weber is usually found dreaming up stories in her California home, surrounded by dogs, cats and kids. When she’s not writing hot, spicy stories for Harlequin Blaze, she’s shopping for the perfect pair of boots or drooling over Johnny Depp pictures (when her husband isn’t looking, of course).

Tawny’s most recent Blazes: COMING ON STRONG and GOING DOWN HARD are out April/May of 2009. In September ’09 she launches Dressed to Thrill, a fun, four-author costume shop continuity with her release of FEELS LIKE THE FIRST TIME. Come by and visit her on the web at www.tawnyweber.com

1)How many manuscripts did you write before you sold one?
It took me 4 years and I sold my 6th manuscript. 3 of those had been targeted at Temptation (sob- then the line closed), 1 single title and then Double Dare, which was my second attempt at a Blaze. I loved the sassy, sexy tone and feel of Temptation and was really excited to see them bring that into Blaze... just a bit hotter

2)Which book was your hardest to write and why?
My current book –always . Just when I think a book can’t get any harder to write, the next one comes along, with its own set of challenges, and proves that I still have so much more to learn. And then I look back fondly at the last one –which I swore was my hardest to write—and miss how much easier it was

3)What do you think is the most difficult thing about being an author?
Promotion, I think. It’s really hard to know what works, what doesn’t and how to make that connection with readers that in turn makes them want to read your book. Luckily with Harlequin, the distribution rocks so the promotional angle gets to be a little bit easier.

4)What authors have most inspired your work
Oh, so many! Nora Roberts, who shows that a strong heroine can still be vulnerable. Vicki Lewis Thompson with her incredible sexy humor. So many of the Blaze authors; Rhonda Nelson, Julie Leto, Tori Carrington, the list goes on and on. I’ve been a fan of their writing for so long.

5)What are you working on now?
I’m finishing up my Blazing Bedtime Story anthology for January – it’s a fun take on the Frog Prince (aka that horny toad) that’s let me play with a light paranormal element that I’d love to write more of. I’m also gathering information for a digital enhancement that Harlequin will be adding to the e-version of my September book – FEELS LIKE THE FIRST TIME, which kicks off the Dressed To Thrill costume shop series with Samantha Hunter, Karen Foley and Lisa Renee Jones. As soon as that’s all in (June 1) I’ll shift right back to another Blaze that I was really having fun with, tentatively titled THE BOY TOY SEXPERIMENT that’ll be out in Sept ’10.

And now a sexy excerpt from GOING DOWN HARD:
“Running away?” Reece asked as he snuck up behind her in the foyer.
In a blur of motion, Sierra yelped, spun around to face him and threw her purse with astonishing strength right at his face.
Lighting fast, Reece grabbed the leather missile and lowered it to his side. He raised a brow at the woman in front of him, his irritation at being attracted not dimming his appreciation for what her panting breaths did for her luscious breasts.
Her black silk tank, so sedate and ladylike at dinner, pressed tighter with every inhalation. He could just make out the lacy fabric of her bra beneath the fabric. And, his body realized with instant hardening appreciation, the outline of her nipples.
Mouth going dry at the sight, Reece craved to taste those straining peaks through the rough lace. Despite their hot and crazy encounter in the closet of Mitch’s resort, Reece had never actually seen Sierra naked. His brain stuttered as he imagined the glorious sight. He’d felt every delicious inch of her body and devoted many dreaming hours to appreciating how good she’d felt.
But seeing her naked? Nope. And from the irritated look on her face, those stalker shots, photoshopped abominations that they were bound to be, was the closest he was going to get.
“Is this an invitation to go with you?” he asked, reining in his fantasies and handing her the black leather bag.
“I’m sorry I threw it,” she murmured. “You startled me. I guess I’m a little edgier than I thought.”
Reece raised a brow, and glanced at the door. He remembered her earlier offer to hide. “Edgy enough to run off?”
“I wasn’t going anywhere. I was checking my messages,” she excused quickly. Interesting that she instantly honed in on his suspicion. “Is this how you handle security for your clients? By sneaking up and hounding them?”
“Hounding? C’mon, sweetheart. You and I both know I might sneak under your skin from time to time,” his appreciative gaze trailed a caress over that skin, just like his fingers itched to do, “but I’ve never hounded you. You’re just a little jumpy.”
With good reason, he was about to say. But her sneer stopped him. God, if he wasn’t already crazy about her, that look alone would have sent him over the edge. Pure sexual challenge, the curl of her glistening red lip made crave a taste of the soft flesh.
“I’m only edgy when some huge, irritating guy follows me around for no reason.”
“So you remember me as huge, huh?”

Welcome to the Pens, Tawny, and thanks for joining us. I agree with you on each book seemingly getting harder. And I always think the next will be easier!

Good luck with all your exciting projects!

I think I read a NASCAR book by you...your name is familiar (that Blaze looks familiar too...my TBR pile is a mess, so I am not sure what I have).

I loved Going Down Hard! Talk about sizzling!
Reece is a scoundrel, but a fun one. and so sexy.

Hey Petro :-) Thank you!!!

Lori ;-) Isn't it crazy how that works?! I always finish a book with a sigh of relief *g*

Hi Katie! I haven't written a NASCAR book (yet *g*) but Vivi Anna has, who is also named Tawny. I hear she rocks, so I'll bet it was a great read!!

Thanks so much Juliet, for the compliment on Going Down Hard - and yeah, Reece is so much fun! - and for the lovely invitation to hang out with you all today :-)

Hi, Tawny!! I know it's been a crazily busy year for you, but selfishly I'm loving it since it means more awesome reading for us! ;) Hee!

Seen any covetable shoes lately? :)

Hey Tawny! I'm with Fedora, I know you've been chained to the desk this year, but it's made for WONDERFUL books! LOVE the two latest and was so jazzed to come out of my own writer's cave and dive into both of them as my reward.

Can't wait for the new one. Sexperiment? Wheeeee! And the anthology sounds fab too! You're my hero...shoes and all...

Waving again, Tawny. Loved reading all your comments. I think just finding new ideas is the hardest part of writing, but you never seem to be out of good ones. Continued success!!!

Reece *sigh* How I love that cowboy :-)

Er...ahem...I mean..hi, Tawny! Hi, ladies! Great excerpt and fun questions *g*

For those who haven't read Going Down Hard (you all should! it rocks *g*) how would you describe Reece? What about Sierra?

Tawny said...

LOL Fedora, I'm all for the crazy-busy myself. It keeps me out of trouble and I do love writing!!

ROFL Jeanne... I'd say you are MY hero - I'm so excited to read Dark and Deadly next week after I turn this book in. And thanks ;-) You do rock!

Hi Paisley - and thank you! You know, every once in awhile I wonder if the ideas will run out. But they don't seem to. I keep a file just in case the well ever runs dry, though *g* I've never actually used anything from the file, but its there like a fuzzy blanket for security LOL

Beth - my ever-so-awesome CP ;-) You're biased, but I love that you love Reece.

Lets see, how would I describe them?

Reece is dedicated, stubborn and always sure he's right. Hmm, so is Sierra. Okay, he's also got a great sense of humor, loves his family like crazy and is very physical. He's an ex-Green Beret, very smart and did I mention sexy?

Sierra's got the sense of humor going for her, but she's not so crazy about her family. She's totally loyal to her best friend, Belle, though and to the business they've built together. She's got a minor shoe obsession (hmm, where did that come from) and is so organized she makes me look like a slakcer *g*

Tawny, fancy seeing you here, my Bandita sister! Congratulations again on two fabulous books. And hey, I didn't know we had a September one to look forward to! Your writing elves have clearly been working hard while you've been sunning yourself by the pool and buying Manolos!

And if anyone hasn't read Coming on Strong and Going Down Hard, grab them. They're fantastic!

Beth said...

and did I mention sexy?LOL! You can't mention that too often when talking about Reece *g*

Tawny said...

Foanna ;-) Fancy that, the two of us in one place LOL. I do pay my writing elves overtime, but wish I could train them to refill my margarita pitcher between chapters, darnit!!!

Helen said...

Tawny I love Reece

Sounds like I have some awesome stories to read in the coming months Tawny thank you I love your books.

Have Fun
Helen

Tawny said...

You can't mention that too often when talking about Reece *g* LOLOL Well, he is sexy, huh Beth. But I think you feel about him the way I do about Dillon in A Not-So-Perfect Past... total reader crushing!!!

Anna Campbell said...

Actually, Tawny, mine refill the margaritas but leave me to do the writing. Perhaps we should talk about a student exchange program!

Tawny said...

Helen!!! Hi there ;-) Thank YOU for loving my books *g* Its definitely a symbiotic relationship, since I don't know what I'd do without readers like you.

Jo Robertson said...

Tawny, congratulations again on these two super books coming out back to back. What a treat!

Four years??!! I'm so jealous. On the road to publication that's a pretty short time, but you've certainly proved your worth!

Dianna said...

As usual I am late to the party. I loved the excerpt, after reading the whole story I could just picture the evil grin on his face.

Tawny said...

Hey Jo ;-) It was a short time in hindsight, but man, those were a long four years when I was in the middle of them!!! and thank you ;-)

Dianna!!! LOL- as long as you get to the party, thats all that counts. And ROFL that you can picture that grin... you just know he loves taunting her, huh?

Caren Crane said...

Oh. My! *thunk* Reece is a hero to die for, Tawny. Reading about your upcoming books gives me hope, though, that there are more hot and bad boys on the way.

I'm with Jo, though. Four stinking years? I've had manuscripts on desks longer than that. *g* You had it easy, babe, lucky for US who get to read your great books!

Tawny said...

ROFL Caren. Easy, huh? Okay... now I'm getting a complex ;-)

I have to admit, too, that my next hero - Dexter Drake - in my September book (FEELS LIKE THE FIRST TIME) isn't a bad boy :-( He's a very sexy geek, though LOL. I seem to either write bad boys or bad girls - one of these books I'm going to have to pair up a bad girl with a bad boy and see who wins.

Hello Tawny

First of all, excuse my english...I'm a french reader from your books.
I've just read "Going down hard", and i really liked it.
I'd like to know how long time do you need to write such great books ?
Thank you for your answer.

Tawny said...

Hi Diane :-)

Your english is great -much better than my french would be *g*

Thank you so much! I love that you enjoyed Going Down Hard!!

For your question, I'm a fast writer. It takes me about 3-4 months to write a book, depending on the other distractions in my life at the time.

Diane said...

Hi Tawny,

To tell U the truth, I read your book because I had to choose between severals for...translation.
I'm a Harlequin translator, working for the Blaze collection, and your book is right here on my table, ready to be translated in french.
Would you have any advices (insisting on this or this in the story) they would be welcomed...but anyway your book is already perfect !
